Berlin Wall

Robert Hefner, sensing the historic change as the cold war was ending, an event symbolized by the tearing down of the Berlin Wall, sent a representative to negotiate with the East German government in March 1990 for the purchase of four complete sections of the Wall. Measuring a total of sixteen feet in length and twelve feet in height, the sections contained murals entitled "Kings of Freedom" by West German graffiti artist, Dennis Kaun. Painted on the West side of the Wall, they depict a bright and joyful king representing freedom and a colorless, blindfolded king who is oblivious to the wishes of his people. The side of the Wall that faced East Germany was gray and colorless. Nothing was ever painted on this side. Robert Hefner believes this contrast artistically represents the character of the societies who lived on each side of the Wall.
