He Daqiao is part of the new generation of painters who have chosen to work in a neo-classical style. He says that he chooses objects for his work that reflect Chinese life on one level or another. The things he uses in his paintings can be found in many Chinese homes and when he paints still lifes he believes he is communicating something about Chinese ancient culture. This wonderfully long-shaped still life of dead lotus leaves is painted actual size and in shades of green and brown that echo the colors of fall when the lotus would be dying.
